Season 12 of Apex Legends, otherwise known as Defiance, brought a certain explosive Australian back to the spotlight. Mad Maggie stopped throwing wrenches from the sidelines and decided to join the chaos herself. While the meta has shifted plenty since 2022, this snapshot of the Season 12 battle royale tier list still offers some timeless lessons—mostly that Gibraltar could survive a meteor, and Caustic really needed a hug.

⚡ S-Tier: The 'Delete Button' Club

Ash had only been around for one season, but she was already acting like the grim reaper of the Outlands. Her kit was built for tracking down squads and making sure nobody escaped a fight. Marking death boxes, throwing Arc Snares, and opening short-range portals meant Ash could finish off enemies before they even finished saying 'let's rotate.' She was the pick for players who liked their kills served with zero runner-up medals.

Bloodhound remained the quintessential tracker. Other legends could reveal locations, but Bloodhound did it with style. Tracking footprints, scanning buildings, and popping a speed-boosting ultimate turned every fight into a horror movie for the enemy squad. The Allfather's favorite detective could smell fear through two walls and a poorly placed Rampart barricade.

Gibraltar continued being the human wall with a heart of gold. His defensive kit was so strong that he could tank a Kraber headshot without getting knocked, thanks to his arm shield. That alone made him S-tier material. Area denial, squad shielding, and a devastating bombardment meant Gibraltar controlled the battlefield like a very polite natural disaster.

Revenant crawled out of the gutter of launch-day tiers and became a genuine nightmare. His abilities could cancel enemy skills, his crouch-walk could slip past Seer's detection, and his Death Totem gave teams a nearly risk-free push attempt. Sure, the Totem had a bug causing trouble during Season 12, but even a glitchy murder robot was still a murder robot.

Valkyrie was the easy mobility queen. When repositioning matters more than almost anything else, a legend who can throw her whole squad into the sky on demand is invaluable. Her hover jets let her dance around fights, and her ultimate basically handed out free redeploys. Getting in and out of bad situations was Valkyrie's specialty, and she made it look effortless.

🔥 A-Tier: Strong, but Keep the Receipt

Fuse was a walking fireworks display. Walter Fitzroy loved ordnance, and his Knuckle Cluster plus Motherlode made him great at disruption. Season 12 even made his flames mark enemies, so people trapped in the fire could not pretend to be invisible. Grenades were strong, so Fuse was strong. Simple math.

Lifeline carried the burden of being Apex Legends' only dedicated healer. She lost her iconic revive shield, but her drone still saved meds and her care package still helped teammates catch up. In a game where every bandage matters, Lifeline remained the squad mom everyone wanted on speed dial.

Mad Maggie was the fresh face of Season 12, and she arrived with zero chill. Her passive gave her faster movement with shotguns, her tactical could bust through cover like Gibraltar's dome shield, and her ultimate was made for full-frontal rushes. The catch? Once she started a fight, she had no real escape route. Mad Maggie was all gas and no brake pedal.

Octane kept climbing popularity charts because speed is addictive. His jump pads became a key part of aggressive pushes, especially when paired with Revenant's Death Totem. He paid for speed with a small slice of his health bar, but who needs health when you are already halfway across the map?

Seer was no longer the launch-day terror, but he was still a solid nuisance. His microdrones could interrupt revives, heals, and enemy confidence all at once. He gave localized intel better than many other recon legends, which made him a safe pick for squads who liked to know exactly where the next bad decision was coming from.

Wraith remained the queen of getting in and out with relative safety. Her passive warned her when someone was aiming in her direction, which was basically a built-in 'you are being watched' alarm. She was not as overpowered as her early days, but players still could not go wrong picking her.

🙂 B-Tier: Good, but Not Exactly Headline News

Bangalore was the textbook soldier class: easy to learn and useful in most situations. Her smoke could cover escapes or pushes, and her carpet bomb ultimate cleared space. The problem was that too many legends could reveal enemies through smoke, which took away some of her magic. Still, she was a great starter pick for newcomers.

Crypto had a small but meaningful buff in Season 12. His drone could now be tossed out to scout briefly without him needing to stay glued to the screen. That helped his passive playstyle, but he still spent too much time outside the fight. Crypto was useful, but his drone was doing most of the socializing.

Horizon settled into a solid spot after a rollercoaster of nerfs and buffs. Her Gravity Lift made repositioning easy, and her Black Hole ultimate was excellent for crowd control. Movement legends always find a place in Apex, and Horizon was no exception.

Loba finally had a working tactical after a long history of teleport failures. Her Black Market could gear up the team quickly, and her passive highlighted high-tier loot nearby. The downside was that she did not bring much once a fight actually broke out.

Mirage lived and died by confusion. In the right hands, his decoys provided good intel and counteracted scan legends. Against enemies who did not fall for the act, he struggled. Mirage was fun, flashy, and occasionally brilliant—but never a safe bet.

Wattson became the best choice for locking down locations after Caustic's massive nerf. Her fences stunned enemies and provided intel when crossed, while her interceptor pylon kept ordnance away. She was great at what she did, but defensive legends still had to fight against Apex's need for speed.

📦 C-Tier: Rampart's Stationary Struggle

Rampart had a good kit trapped in a game that refused to stand still. Her amped walls and Sheila could turn a building into a fortress, but battle royale circles do not care about interior decorating. Respawn tried to make her ultimate movable, but she still needed a full rework to truly thrive.

☠️ D-Tier: Caustic's Gas-Filled Funeral

Caustic took a nerf so brutal it almost became a war crime. His signature gas traps could now be destroyed after being triggered, which made defending a position much harder. The gas dad could no longer protect his personal fart fortress with confidence. Mains everywhere sat in silence, wondering whether to switch to Wattson or start a support group.

In Season 12, only a few balance passes occurred. Crypto got a small buff, Caustic got a gigantic nerf, and everyone else mostly danced in place. The meta was diverse, but the gap between top and bottom was loud. By modern 2026 standards, this list is a time capsule—but the same truth remains: mobility, intel, and team utility win games. Caustic mains still deserve compensation.
